FAQs
What is a doula?
A doula is a person employed by families to assist in guidance, education, and support during birth and/or the postpartum period. There are many different kinds of doulas for different situations—some have special trainings for lactation or fertility assistance. Some doulas are considered ‘full-spectrum’ which means they have received training to help families through birth, postpartum, and potentially bereavement care after a death or life-limiting diagnosis for the baby. A doula usually does not perform any medical procedures unless they are also trained as a midwife.
Do Doulas replace partners?
Absolutely not! A good doula will actually encourage a partner or support person to be more involved in the birth and postpartum process. Doulas exist to support the parents in their decisions and preferences regardless of the doula’s personal opinions. They can offer various options for parents to discuss, but the doula never makes the final choices or speaks on the clients’ behalf.
What Services do you provide?
I have been trained as a full-spectrum doula, so I can serve during birth, postpartum, and in cases of bereavement. I have a real heart to serve bereaved parents since I have a personal history with miscarriage.
I have a page that spells out my services and prices under the menu tab.
I offer in-person or virtual support. I hope to add more services in the future once I have completed my certification.
Do you Accept Insurance or have payment plans?
Currently, I do not accept insurance—but I strive to keep my services affordable. I do have payment plans for my birth services. These need to be paid in-full by 37 weeks gestation.
Do you charge for bereavement care?
Bereavement services are 100% free—unless friends or family wish to make a love offering.
What’s behind the name: Mosaic Heart Doula?
I chose the name MHD because it encapsulates what I hope my business will become. Mosaics are made of various—often broken—pieces placed together to make a beautiful whole picture. I hope to have a diverse practice that brings hope and healing even in situations of brokenness.
What areas do you currently serve?
I live in Grand County Colorado, but I am available to travel throughout the state and potentially to surrounding states for an extra fee. I can serve at home or hospital/birth center births, in-person or through virtual means.
What do virtual services look like?
In a virtual setting, I would be on-call for questions and concerns. I would provide the client(s) with a means for which I could join the delivery room via video call. I would focus a lot of attention on coaching the partner or support person through different methods of pain relief, comfort measures, and techniques to assist laboring down and dilation. I would continue to offer emotional and moral support as the labor process continues forward.
Do you work with midwives & doctors?
I am happy to work with both. Usually the parents will need to inform their provider that I will be there to assist during the birth so the doctor or midwife can be prepared for my presence.
Do you have a backup doula?
In the circumstance that I will be unable to attend or assist virtually, I will have a backup doula on-call to cover my absence. I may also choose to call in a backup doula in cases of extreme fatigue, or if the labor process exceeds 24 hours. Contact information from the other doula will be shared with the client(s) before the birth.
Do you provide LGBTQIA+ friendly care?
Yes! I am happy to work with LGBTQIA+ parents. My services will be tailored to the their needs and preferences, taking special attention to any unique experiences or challenges the parents may face as they welcome their baby into the world.
Are you Faith-based?
I am a Christian, but I do not expect my clients to be. If my client desires expressions of their own faith in their birth/postpartum preferences, I will try to find ways to accommodate.
What Is your cancellation & refund policy?
In the case of a cancellation before services begin, the client(s) will be refunded the full amount with a $50.00 cancellation fee. If the cancellation occurs after the prenatal visits, but before the birth, the client(s) will be refunded half the full amount. No refunds will be issued once services have been provided. If the services provided are less than satisfactory, additional postpartum services may be offered in lieu of a refund. Refunds will not be issued in the circumstance of a precipitous birth (baby being born quickly before the doula was able to arrive), but additional postpartum services may be offered.
